At Tutor Stone, we take great pride in the quality of our tutoring services. Our tutors play a pivotal role in delivering excellence to our students. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and ethical standards that all Tutor Stone tutors are required to uphold.

1. Teaching Methods

  • As a tutor, it is your responsibility to encourage the children and young people you work with to reach their individual potential.
  • You must be well-prepared for each tutoring session, following the curriculum and lesson plan as agreed upon with Tutor Stone and the student(s).
  • You must commit to identifying any particular challenges or difficulties your tutees have with their learning and assist them in overcoming those barriers.
  • You are encouraged to engage in professional development to enhance your teaching skills and knowledge.
  • You must share with Tutor Stone any concerns you have about a tutee’s social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties that are beyond your competency to address.
  • Your relationship with your tutees must be professional and not personal and recognise that you have a duty of care towards them.

2. Professionalism

  • Tutors must maintain the highest levels of professionalism in all interactions with students, parents, and colleagues. This includes punctuality, respect, and effective communication. You must not:
    • Use discriminatory or offensive language
    • Have social contact with your tutees and their parents/guardians
    • Have romantic or sexual relationships with a tutee or parent/guardian.
    • Have any communication with a student or parent/guardian which may be interpreted as sexually suggestive or provocative.
    • Discuss your own sexual relationships with or in the presence of a tutee or parent/guardian
    • Violate professional boundaries in any capacity with any tutees, parents/guardians, and fellow colleagues
  • In the case where you suspect that a tutee has developed romantic feelings for you, you must record and report this to Tutor Stone immediately
  • Tutors should uphold the highest standards of integrity and academic honesty.

3. Confidentiality

  • You must deliver your lessons in a private manner, with no observers present.
  • You must record your lessons for the purposes of safeguarding and monitoring.
  • You must store all of your lesson recordings for 30 days since they were taken, after which time, all copies of the recording must be deleted.
  • Tutor Stone might occasionally request you to share some or all of your lesson recordings, for the purposes of:
    • investigating complaints of safeguarding,
    • conducting regular safeguarding checks, or
    • for any other reason as Tutor Stone sees fit
  • Upon receiving a request from Tutor Stone, you must share the relevant lesson recording(s) as soon as possible.
  • You must not share the lesson recordings with any third party whatsoever, including but not limited to:
    • Friends and family
    • Other tutors, in Tutor Stone or elsewhere
    • Any third parties not associated with Tutor Stone
  • Tutors are entrusted with personal and academic information about students. This information should be:
    • Treated with the utmost confidentiality and not disclosed to third parties
    • Processed according to the GDPR and UK Data Protection Laws, and following Tutor Stone guidelines

4. Safety and Well-being

  • While you are not expected to be an expert at spotting potential signs of abuse, you are invited to contact Tutor Stone if you have any questions or concerns in this area.
  • You must ensure that you maintain vigilance in looking out for signs of abuse or neglect in all forms that this may be presented.
  • You must take any disclosures of abuse seriously and follow the relevant policies made available to you.
  • You must report all suspicions of abuse or neglect to Tutor Stone and, if appropriate, the police, at the end of the lesson, or immediately in the case of an emergency.

5. Cancellation and Rescheduling

  • Tutors should communicate any scheduling conflicts, cancellations, or rescheduling requests in advance and make reasonable efforts to accommodate students’ needs.

6. Compliance with Policies

  • Tutors must adhere to all policies and guidelines set forth by Tutor Stone, including the Terms and Conditions, Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, and Privacy Policy.
  • By accepting the role of a tutor at Tutor Stone, you acknowledge and commit to upholding this Code of Conduct.
  • Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in disciplinary action, including termination of your tutoring responsibilities.
